3 Essential Tips for Establishing a Personal Brand & Online Presence as a Women in Medicine!

Updated: Oct 2

Some medical doctors believe that traditional advertising and other offline promotional strategies like word-of-mouth referrals are all they need for long-term success. Yet, a recognized personal brand and an online presence have been critical to reaching patients long before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic forced people to connect via the internet more than ever before. In recent years, patients have regularly looked for doctors' information on business, review, social, and industry sites. People often pick doctors who they believe have a personal brand and an online presence that reflects experience, modernity, and trust.

How can you establish a personal brand and online presence that does the same?

“The practice website is often a person's first impression of a doctor and their office and staff. A doctor who doesn't have one of these websites or, worse yet, an extremely outdated one, makes a horrible first impression.”

1. Set up a modern, user-friendly website

The practice website is often a person's first impression of a doctor and their office and staff. A doctor who doesn't have one of these websites or, worse yet, an extremely outdated one, makes a horrible first impression. Your website should look clean and modern like a doctor's office. It should have high-quality pictures of the office along with you and your staff and bios that reveal qualifications and a few interesting personal details like hobbies and interests. The site should outline in clear-yet-friendly terms your policies and expectations.

2. Lead by example through expert opportunities

One of the best ways that a doctor can establish a positive online presence is by promoting their expertise through industry-related opportunities that prompt people to seek them out as an expert in their field of study. Agree to be a guest writer for an industry-related website or publication. Offer to be a regular source of knowledge and quotes for journalists who write articles about medical topics through local and national media outlets. Create and post videos about subjects related to your expertise on your website and video and social platforms.

3. Talk directly to prospective patients

Another way that doctors have improved their personal branding is by removing some of the barriers that now exist because people turn to the internet so much for help with finding medical assistance. Instead of being a guest speaker at a live event for a medical or other organization, offer to do a Q&A session online. For example, you might participate in an interview during a live stream event or answer questions via chat messages or forum posts on a social platform. These three tips show that it isn't difficult to establish online branding that increases high-quality patient referrals, offline and online traffic, and overall success. You merely need to invest time and money into connecting with potential clients and showing them that you're an experienced, trusted doctor with a modern practice.
